Omicron Covid variant may be more contagious but less lethal than delta

Scientists are becoming increasingly optimistic that the omicron variant of Covid may be less deadly than the delta strain, as mainly “mild” cases of the virus have been reported in South Africa thus far.

Dr. Warner Greene, director of the Center for HIV Cure Research at the Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco, has said: “This looks to be a highly infectious virus, but it may not be as virulent or as pathogenic as the delta variant.”
