Chris Bryant urges Britain to celebrate ‘naughty’ drag queens like Paul O’Grady’s Lily Savage
Chris Bryant told the House of Commons that the time has come for the UK to celebrate drag queens like Lily Savage.
Paul O'Grady, who rose to fame as his drag alter-ego, died "unexpectedly but peacefully” aged 67.
Addressing parliament, the Labour MP told the iconic story of how Lily Savage responded to a police raid during her performance at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
"Isn't it time we in this country celebrated our naughty, hilarious, drag queens and comics of every kind who inspire us to be a better and more generous nation," he said.
