Mixed receptions as ‘God Save the King’ rings out at Premier League grounds for King Charles coronation
There were mixed reactions at Premier League grounds across the country as “God Save the King” was played ahead of kick-off.
At Anfield, Liverpool fans drowned out the anthem with booing and chanting, and anti-monarchy signs and flags could be spotted throughout the home crowd.
It was, however, better received at Manchester City, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Bournemouth.
Charles was coronated at Westminster Abbey just a few hours before the Premier League’s 3pm kick-offs.
