Elon Musk says ‘a bunch of people probably will die’ during Mars venture

American entrepreneur Elon Musk has said that “a bunch of people will probably will die” when they travel to Mars with his private space company, SpaceX. Comparing the journey to an advert for explorer Ernest Shackleton’s trip to the Antarctic, Musk said it’s “dangerous [and] uncomfortable” and that those involved “may not make it back alive”. Despite this, he insisted that it’s a “glorious adventure” and an “amazing experience”. SpaceX’s model, Starship, is currently the best chance of reaching the Red Planet, and the company hopes to achieve crewed missions to Mars before the end of the decade.
