Watch: Kite surfer collides with whale off Australian coast

A kite surfer’s GoPro camera captured the moment he collided with a juvenile humpback as it leapt from the sea off Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Wednesday, 25 October.

Jason Breen, 55, was surfing at Mona Vale when he was dragged below the surface of the water in the impact - however, he managed to escape reasonably unscathed.

It could have been a very different outcome had the whale been older, the wing surfer told 9News.

“It was a big calf, if it had barnacles I would have been ripped apart because the whale’s body was beside me the whole time,” he said.
