David Amess’s wife speaks out after home secretary rejects inquiry into MP’s murder
Lady Julia Amess, widow of late MP Sir David Amess, has responded after the home secretary rejected calls for a public inquiry into his murder.
In the letter addressed to Lady Julia Amess and her daughter Katie Amess, Yvette Cooper stated it was “hard to see how an inquiry would be able to go beyond” the trial of terrorist Ali Harbi Ali and a recent review of the Prevent strategy.
In a statement read by Miss Ames today (10 March), Lady Amess described the decision as “pouring salt onto the wound” and urged Sir Keir Starmer to “reconsider the government’s position” ahead of a meeting with the prime minister and home secretary on 12 March.
