Trans rights rally placards should be investigated by Met, policing minister says
Placards carried at a trans rights protest in London over the weekend should be investigated by the Metropolitan Police, the policing minister has said.
Police said officers are also dealing with complaints from the public about signs and images shared on social media that were reportedly displayed at the protest on Saturday (19 April) following the UK’s Supreme Court ruling that the terms “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex.
To date the images and signs are from historic events, did not take place in London, or do not constitute a criminal offence, but officers are reviewing available footage of the protest, the Met added.
Dame Diana Johnson said she was informed the images were historic, but she is happy to raise the matter again with police.
“Clearly if there's incitement...that has to be looked at,” she added.
