Protests erupt across world after Israeli troops intercept Gaza aid flotilla ships
- The Global Sumud Flotilla, carrying nearly 500 international volunteers and humanitarian aid to Gaza, was intercepted by the Israeli military and its participants were detained at Ketziot Prison.
- The interception sparked widespread international protests, including clashes in London leading to 40 arrests, and strikes in Italy, with demonstrations also occurring across Europe, the US, and other global cities.
- Israel labelled the aid mission a "sham" and "provocation," with National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir referring to the detained activists as "terrorists" and showing footage from their prison.
- International condemnation followed, with Colombia expelling Israeli diplomats, Turkey calling the action an "act of terror," and Amnesty International describing it as a "calculated act of intimidation" and demanding the activists' release.
- The incident occurred amidst ongoing conflict in Gaza, where over 66,000 have been killed, and as the US president issued a deadline for a ceasefire plan.
