Major environmental damage risk after North Sea oil tanker collision, experts warn
There are concerns of major environmental damage after a cargo ship collided with an oil tanker in the North Sea on Monday (10 March).
Attention has turned to ways to limit the damage from the incident, which involved the US-flagged oil tanker Stena Immaculate and Portuguese vessel Solong.
The collision took place on the Humber Estuary in East Yorkshire, with the oil tanker at anchor.
Shipping company Ernst Russ said Solong did not carry containers of sodium cyanide, but had empty containers previously used to transport the “hazardous chemical” which will continue to be monitored.
