Mother who searched for stillborn baby’s grave for 57 years praised for bravery

A mother who searched for her stillborn baby’s grave for 57 years has been praised for her bravery.

Before the 1980s, it was common practice across the UK that when a woman had a stillbirth, hospital staff would quickly take the baby away.

Gina Jacobs, whose stillborn son Robert was taken away from her immediately after giving birth, has been working with Wirral Council cemetery staff to help locate babies buried and give loved ones comfort.

Ms Jacobs was praised for her campaigning by Rishi Sunak during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday (1 May).
