Avalanche buries three-storey apartment block in California storm

An avalanche buried a three-story high apartment block in Placer County, northwest of Tahoe, on Tuesday evening (28 February).

All residents were able to evacuate the Olympic Valley building and sustained no injuries, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

The snowfall surrounding the apartment measured 200 yards wide and 25ft deep.

It comes as California is experiencing an “historic” amount of snowfall, as described by the National Weather Service (NWS).

A slight break in snow is predicted for Wednesday and Thursday but a storm is expected this weekend.
