Animals rescued from black market in Colombia find new home in natural reserve

Nearly 100 animals including a puma, white-faced capuchins and arrau turtles rescued from the black market in Colombia found a new home in a remote natural reserve on July 31.

Colombia’s armed forces were called in to help transport animals to the Primavera natural reserve in Colombia’s Vichada department, in the country’s remote eastern plains that border Venezuela.

Colombia is one of the world’s most biodiverse countries by square kilometre and home to some 10% of the world’s flora and fauna, making it a huge draw for illegal animal traffickers.
