Former Labour MP Mike Amesbury breaks silence after pleading guilty to punching man in street

Former Labour MP Mike Amesbury has broken his silence after pleading guilty to punching man in a late night street attack.

Mr Amesbury told a man “you won’t threaten your MP again”after punching him in the head with enough force to knock him to the ground, Chester Magistrates’ Court heard today (16 January).

Amesbury pleaded guilty to assaulting 45-year-old Paul Fellows in Main Street in Frodsham, Cheshire, in the early hours of 26 October following a dispute about a bridge closure.

He has apologised to the man he admitted punching to the ground, telling reporters outside Chester Magistrates’ Court: “I am sincerely sorry to Mr Fellows and his family.”
