Pentagon releases photo of last soldier to leave Afghanistan
The final soldier to leave Afghanistan has been pictured as the US completes its withdrawal ending its 20-year campaign in the country.
All American service members have now departed after the last of its military planes took off from Kabul airport.
A photo, appearing to have been taken through a night-vision lens, captures Major General Chris Donahue, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, boarding a C-17 cargo plane.
The Department of Defence shared the green image as they confirm the completion of the evacuation mission.
It comes as the Pentagon admits as many as 250 Americans who wanted to leave Kabul are stranded there.
