US Capitol rioter rejecting Trump's Jan 6 pardon denounces Maga 'cult’

A US Capitol rioter who was nicknamed the "Maga granny" by social media users has said she is refusing Donald Trump's pardon over the events of January 6, 2021, something she described as “a slap in the face to the rule of law.”

Pamela Hemphill, 71, was sentenced to 60 days in prison after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge in the attack.

Her refusal to accept Trump's gesture came after the 47th president granted clemency on his first day back in office to more than 1,500 supporters charged with crimes connected to the attack.

"Maga is a cult," Hemphill concluded in an interview with Sky News on Wednesday (22 January).
