Dublin park erupts with pride as Kellie Harrington makes Irish sporting history at Olympics
Dublin’s Diamond Park erupted on Tuesday night (6 August) after Kellie Harrington made Irish sporting history, winning a second gold medal in the women’s 60kg boxing event.
Harrington cruised through the final against Wenlu Yang to retain her Olympic title and take home Ireland’s fourth gold medal at the Paris games.
Cheers went up as Dubliners packed into the park to cheer on the local woman who through determination and hard work had become a world-class boxer.
Harrington made history by becoming the first Irish female athlete to win gold at back-to-back Olympic Games
Back home, children crowded in front of the big screen and punched the air as the boxer weaved and jabbed in the ring at the Roland-Garros tennis stadium in front of an audience of 15,000.
