How to spot signs of coercive control and domestic abuse
The national domestic abuse helpline can offer support on 0808 2000 247, or you can visit the Women's Aid website. For those in the US, the domestic violence hotline is 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). Other international helplines can be found via www.befrienders.org
The chief executive of Women’s Aid has shared vital advice on how to spot the signs of coercive control and domestic abuse.
Farah Nazeer said: “Coercive and controlling behaviour is at the centre of all domestic abuse relationships.
“A really good sort of test is if something doesn’t feel right, if you observe a relationship with an individual, and in your gut you think ‘actually there is something not quite right here’, it is really important to follow that instinct.”
Appearing on Loose Women on Wednesday (6 March) as part of a special campaign raising awareness of coercive control, Ms Nazeer also listed several other signs of coercive control and domestic abuse.
