Record-breaking Nepali sherpa given hero’s welcome as he scales Everest for 28th time
A Nepali climber who scaled Mount Everest for a record 28th time this week was given a hero’s welcome at Kathmandu airport after completing the spectacular feat.
Kami Rita, 53, was surrounded by friends and family on Thursday (25 May) after scaling the mountain to the summit within a week.
The sherpa said he has no immediate plans to hang up his climbing boots.
Rita has climbed Everest every year since 1994 except in 2014, 2015 and 2020 when authorities closed the mountain for various reasons.
