Chinese astronauts arrive at new ‘Tianhe’ space station in major breakthrough
Three Chinese astronauts have arrived at the country’s new space station after blasting off from Earth on Thursday morning.
Their Shenzhou-12 spacecraft, or Divine Vessel, lifted off atop a Long March 2F rocket from the Jiuquan satellite launch centre in China’s Gobi desert.
Just over seven hours later, the crew successfully docked with the space station.
The men are to spend three months aboard the Tianhe core module to bring it into service and prepare it for receiving additional modules.
It marks China’s first crewed space venture in five years and the longest to date.
